Choosing Joy - in cleaning your home
Cleaning is not my favorite thing to do. Some find it theraputic, I find it overwhelming. It seems like every time I clean I turn around and there is Abby pulling out her toys or leaving her fruit snacks wrapper on the couch. The thing that gets on my nerves more than anything is the dogs, they roll around outside in the dead grass and then come inside covered in it and it gets all in the carpet on the couch in our bed in our socks..... everywhere. So today I needed to play catch up. I needed to do laundry, scrub the table where we made our gingerbread house, wipe down counter tops, clean the kitchen, sweep and vacuum, cook of course, clean up whatever mess I make in the kitchen, wash and shave the dogs, clean up after doing that, get dressed and go to the HS basketball game. The of course doesn't count having to do homeschooling with Abby and attending to the needs of my baby. For some these are simple everyday tasks, for me it is overwhelming. But I decided to take a deep breath and think to myself "when I am done, the house will look nice and be comfortable and I'll be able to relax" so I chose to not get overwhelmed but instead I chose to have joy in knowing that I wasn't just wasting my time. I was getting things done. Of course after sweeping and vacuuming the dogs came back in with all the grass... what can you do? Nothing accept to breathe and choose joy!
