Well it has been 3 weeks since Ellie was born and I have to say that things are going pretty well. I was a little apprehensive when I found out I was having another girl because Abigail, my first child, was so difficult as a baby I questioned whether it was because she was my first or if because she was a high maintenance girl. I now know that it was because she was my first. Looking back I realize that there was so much that I didn't know. Ellie is a little harder than Josiah but she's still farely laid back.
Another thing I wondered about was whether Joey was going to be jealous. He's 17 months so I didn't know if he would accept his new little sister. Thankfully he is such a loving and sweet spirited little boy. My biggest problem with him is trying to get him to be careful while trying to give Ellie kisses. He also tries to pick her up and of course that would end in a tragic fall. But all in all he is very loving.
Abigail helps out more with Joey which allows me to take care of Ellie. She's being home schooled so things can get a little tricky if I don't stay on top of things. Thankfully Joey still takes two naps a day and Ellie pretty much sleeps all day long.
Ellie is eating very well. At her last check up she was 8lbs. 14oz. she has no problem nursing and I am so glad. Being that she was in the NICU for 7 days I worked really hard at not allowing her to constantly be on the bottle. I stayed there from 8 a.m. until 12 a.m. and that left her with only 2 bottles during the night feeding and I usually would pump out one full bottle. At first we struggled with her latching on and staying latched but once my milk came in she had no problem.
Another blessing is having my husband around. Since he is a Pastor, his schedule is more flexible and he can do a lot of his studying at home, and make visits in the evening. There is so much that he does to help me out, whether it is taking us out to eat so I don't have to cook, cleaning the dishes or watching Abby and Joey so I can take a nap. I love seeing him hold is littlest princess. He simply adores her and just melts. I laughed the other day because he said "now I'm really gonna make sure that I stay in shape" and I didn't understand why he said that "now that I have two beautiful girls, I'm gonna have to make sure I can intimidate any guy they bring home." LOL I thought that was too funny. I said I would just sit on the couch with a shot gun, because nothing is scarier than a mom with a gun!
Anyhow, God has been very good to us. I am so thankful for all the blessings He has poured upon us.
