It was spring time and one day I asked my husband if he could go buy me some fresh cut flowers. "Why" he asked "fresh cut flowers are kind of expensive" I told him that it is spring time and a vase of fresh cut flowers brightens the room and gives it a cheery feeling. "Oh, okay." he said. For whatever reason he wasn't thrilled about me all of sudden wanting fresh cut flowers, I mean, it wasn't Valentines day, Mother's day or my Birthday..... Until we sat down for a devotion one morning and read this from Curtis Hudson's book: Some Things I've Learned
A person's attitude has a lot to do with his altitude. The Scripture says in Proverbs 23;7, " For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he." One's surroundings can have alot to do with one's attitude. When I say surround yourself with beautiful things, I don't mean expensive things. Find a picture that you enjoy looking at, and put it in a conspicuous spot. Plant flowers in the springtime so that the landscape looks beautiful. Put live flowers on the table occasionally. Make the place where you eat, a bright, happy-looking place. Use brightly colored dishes or decorations that look good to you. Never mind what others think. Decorate your home for yourself, not others. You spend a lot of time in your home. Make it a place that you can enjoy to the utmost. Get a good radio or stereo and listen to beautiful music.
After reading this together, my husband apologized for getting bugged with me. Later on he came home with some fresh cut flowers and it made him happy to see how much I enjoyed them.
Everyone has a certain thing or certain things that are small things, but they make you feel good. I love things that smell good. Shampoo, lotions, perfumes, candles, clean clothes... even deodorant. Things that smell good make me feel good.
Here are a few things that I like to do around my house.
Spring and summer time I enjoy fresh cut flowers, and plugin's or anything that has a citrus scent.
Fall time I enjoy lighting candles instead of using plugin's. It warms up the room and gives it a cozy glow, usually I choose a candle with a melon smell. I also like to push open the blinds and let the sun shine through our windows. I'll crack the windows to get that nice crisp air flowing throughout the house.
Winter time I enjoy setting up our tree and anything with twinkling lights. This is my favorite! I love the twinkling lights at night. And I usually have candles lit that smell like apple cinnamon.
The other thing I enjoy doing is setting out plates and cups that our seasonal. I have plates with leaves on them for the fall time, plates with snowmen on them for the winter time.
These are just a few small things that make my house my own. What beautiful things do you surround yourself with?

Good thoughts, Esther...when I need comfort, I use a candle, when I need inspiration I turn on music. At the same time, when I need peace, I have to remember to turn all the noises off...then I can think and *be* without interruption. Great post!
Great post, Ezzy. I totally know what you mean. =]
I have always loved being able to have a clean house in the evening, close all the blinds and light a candle with a lamp on and it feel cozy with the dim light and play a favorite cd. It is nice to know that this is my home, my house. Good post =)
